About the state of Idaho
Idaho is a state located in the northwestern region of the United States. With a population of approximately 1.8 million people, it is the 14th largest state in terms of area, but only the 39th most populous. The state is known for its rugged wilderness, which includes forests, deserts, and mountains, as well as its abundant natural resources, including silver, gold, and potatoes.
A fun fact about Idaho is that it is the only state in the country that has a floating post office. The St. Maries River Post Office, located on a houseboat on the St. Maries River, is only accessible by water and is the only floating post office in the United States. The post office has been in operation since the early 1900s and is a popular tourist destination.
In terms of its history, Idaho has an uncommon story that is not widely known. In the early 1900s, the state was home to a thriving anarchist community known as the “Canyon County Anarchists.” This community was made up of Italian and Russian immigrants who had fled their home countries to escape political repression. In Idaho, they found a place where they could live freely and practice their anarchist beliefs. The community was self-sufficient and had its own schools, stores, and even a jail. Despite facing opposition from the government and other groups, the Canyon County Anarchists were able to maintain their community for several decades before eventually dissolving.
Idaho is also known for its outdoor recreation opportunities, which include skiing, snowboarding, fishing, hiking, and rafting. The state is home to several ski resorts, including Sun Valley Resort and Schweitzer Mountain Resort, as well as numerous rivers and lakes that are popular for fishing and rafting. In addition, Idaho is home to the largest wilderness area in the lower 48 states, the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, which covers over 2.3 million acres and is a popular destination for backcountry enthusiasts.
To sum it up, Idaho is a state that is full of surprises, from its floating post office to its thriving anarchist community. With its rugged wilderness, abundant natural resources, and rich outdoor recreation opportunities, Idaho is a state that has something for everyone. Whether you’re a history buff, an outdoor enthusiast, or just looking for a unique adventure, this state is definitely worth a visit.
